privacy policy

the app

the longbook desktop app collects no personal data — none. there is no account, no email, no sign-up, no analytics, no telemetry, and no crash reporting. the app makes no internet connections. everything you enter is stored in plain files in a folder on your own device, under your control. we never see it, and we couldn’t — there is no server for it to go to.

if you choose to keep your vault folder in iCloud Drive, Apple stores and syncs those files under Apple’s privacy terms — that is a choice you make with Apple, and we are not part of it. if you point a third-party AI tool at your vault (agentic mode), that tool handles your data under its own terms — choose one you trust.

this website

longbook.app has no cookies and no cross-site tracking. we do count page views and a few deliberate clicks — which pages people read, and whether they went on to download the app — using PostHog, on their European servers. it is configured to record as little as it can: no cookies, no session recording, no advertising, and no profile built up about you. the marker that ties one page view to the next is kept in your browser’s session storage and is erased the moment you close the tab, so nothing follows you to a second visit or to any other site. it tells us that a page was read — never who read it.

this is the website only. the app collects nothing, and never will.

the site is hosted on Netlify, whose infrastructure keeps standard, short-lived server logs (IP address, requested page) under Netlify’s privacy policy. we do not receive or keep those logs.

we have registered the site with Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. that is a claim of ownership over longbook.app, not a piece of tracking — it puts no code on the page and collects nothing from you. what those tools show us is already-aggregated: which search terms led people here, and how many clicked. never who.

downloading the app

the download button hands you over to GitHub, where the app file itself lives, under GitHub’s privacy statement. GitHub serves the file and counts how many times each release was downloaded. we read that count — one number per release — and it tells us nothing about who you are.

payments (optional support)

supporting longbook is optional and handled by PayPal on their payment pages, under PayPal’s privacy policy. we never see or store your card or bank details — what reaches us is only PayPal’s confirmation that a payment was made.

what we don’t do

• we don’t sell, share, or monetise anyone’s data — we don’t have any.
• we don’t profile, advertise, or track across sites.
• we don’t use third-party services beyond the ones named above (Netlify, PostHog, GitHub, PayPal, and the two search-engine tools).
