The widget and the Mac menu bar
Both keep your next payment in view without opening longbook.
iPhone widget
A Home Screen widget called next payment, in small and medium sizes. To add it, press and hold the Home Screen, add a widget, and search for longbook.
- The day reads Today, Tomorrow or a count of days, with the total and each commitment due.
- Paused and cancelled commitments, charges marked paid, and money in are left out.
- Totals are per currency, never converted. A transfer, such as a card bill, shows on its own line.
- The medium size also names the person each payment is for.
- It reads your folder in iCloud Drive, and refreshes after midnight and when the app loads a change.
- If it can't read the folder it shows open longbook. Opening the app fixes it.
There is no Lock Screen widget.
Mac menu bar
The longbook item in the menu bar shows the total due on the next payment day and how far away it is. The menu names each commitment due, lists transfers separately, and has Open longbook, Refresh and Quit longbook.
- It stays while the app is running, even with every window closed.
- longbook doesn't start itself at login.
- It re-reads the folder when the day changes, the Mac wakes, and each time the menu opens.
There is no widget for the Mac.
