## Agreement to these Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern access to and use of the longbook website at longbook.app, the longbook application for macOS, the longbook application for iOS, and the hosted services described in section 10 (together, the "Service").

The Service is operated by the person identified in section 23 ("longbook", "we", "us"). "You" means the individual or entity using the Service.

Downloading, installing or using the Service constitutes acceptance of these Terms. A person who does not accept them should not use the Service.

These Terms incorporate the [Privacy Policy](https://longbook.app/privacy-policy) by reference.

## Definitions

"Application" means the longbook application for macOS or for iOS.

"Licence" means the one-time paid licence described in section 3.

"Cloud" means the longbook Cloud subscription described in section 4.

"Account" means the longbook account created with an email address.

"Memory File" means the structured data file the Application stores on your device and in your own iCloud Drive.

"Hosted Services" means the optional server-side features described in section 10: the hosted copy used by the longbook MCP server, the access keys that admit an AI to it, statement reading, and shared reports.

## Licence

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to install and use the Application on devices you own or control.

The Licence is issued to one individual and covers both the macOS Application and the iOS Application.

The Licence fee is USD 38 in the United States App Store, or the price the App Store shows in your own storefront, payable once. It is not a subscription and does not renew. It does not include Cloud, which is purchased separately under section 4.

The Licence may not be sold, rented, sublicensed, transferred or shared, and Account credentials may not be shared.

All rights not expressly granted in these Terms are reserved.

## Cloud subscription

longbook Cloud ("Cloud") is an auto-renewing subscription that covers every feature of the Service that uses our servers: the hosted copy used by the longbook MCP server and the access keys that admit an AI to it, a larger monthly share of statement reading, and the creation of shared reports. A smaller monthly share of statement reading is included with every Account. Viewing and commenting on a report shared with you require no subscription.

The Cloud fee is USD 4 a month in the United States App Store, or the price the App Store shows in your own storefront. Cloud is purchased inside the Application and the purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store, under Apple’s own terms. The website does not sell Cloud.

Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. Cloud renews automatically each month, and the account is charged for the renewal within twenty-four (24) hours before the end of the current period, unless it is cancelled at least twenty-four (24) hours before that period ends. Cloud is managed and cancelled in the subscription settings of your Apple ID. Deleting the Application does not cancel it.

A Licence includes Cloud for twelve (12) months from the date of purchase, without charge, for the purchaser’s Account and for the Account of each family member who receives the Licence through Apple Family Sharing. This inclusion is longbook’s own and not an Apple introductory offer, and subscribing during the twelve months does not extend them. If the Licence is refunded or revoked, the included Cloud ends with it, for the purchaser and for every family member.

Cloud supports Apple Family Sharing. A Cloud subscription may be shared with the members of the subscriber’s Family Sharing group, each using Cloud on their own Account. A member’s access ends when the subscription lapses, when sharing is turned off, or when the member leaves the group.

Refunds of Cloud fees are handled by Apple under Apple’s terms, as section 7 states. Cancelling Cloud stops the next renewal; it does not refund the current period, except where Apple’s terms or the law provide otherwise.

When Cloud lapses — on expiry, cancellation, refund, revocation or a failed renewal — the features it covers stop: the hosted copy is no longer served to any AI, new access keys cannot be made, statement reading returns to the share included with every Account, and new shared reports cannot be created. The Application, the Memory File and the Licence are unaffected. The hosted copy is kept for thirty (30) days after the lapse and is deleted if Cloud is not resumed within that time. Reports already shared remain available until their links expire or you revoke them.

We may grant Cloud to an Account without charge for a period we state. Such a grant confers no right to renewal.

The Cloud fee may change. A changed fee applies from the first renewal after Apple has notified you of it, in the manner and subject to any consent that Apple’s terms require.

## Buying before use

There is no free trial. The Application is used with a Licence, bought inside the Application before first use; an Account without one is shown the purchase screen. A demonstration with sample data can be viewed without a Licence.

If a Licence is refunded or revoked, the Application continues to display and export data already recorded. Adding new commitments requires a Licence again, and the Hosted Services require Cloud.

## Fees, taxes and payment

A Licence and Cloud are purchased inside the Application, on macOS and on iOS alike, and each purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store, under Apple’s own terms. The website sells neither.

Apple, as the seller of the transaction, calculates, collects and remits applicable sales tax, VAT and GST. The App Store shows the price in your own currency, with the taxes that apply to you.

We do not receive or store payment card details.

## Refunds

**You may request a refund of a Licence fee within seven (7) days of purchase, for any reason, and longbook supports that request.** A Licence bought through the App Store is refunded by Apple: the request is made to Apple, from the Account screen of the Application or through Apple’s own refund page, and Apple decides it under Apple’s terms. When a refund is made, the Licence, and the Cloud it includes, end.

After those seven (7) days, **Licence fees are non-refundable, and Cloud fees are non-refundable, except where Apple’s terms or the law provide otherwise**.

Clause 7.1 does not limit any statutory right to a refund that cannot be waived under the law applying to you.

A billing error on an App Store purchase — a duplicate charge, an incorrect amount — is corrected by Apple, which took the payment. For anything Apple cannot resolve, write to [contact@longbook.app](mailto:contact@longbook.app).

## Updates and versions

A Licence includes every update released for the Application, future major versions included, at no further charge.

Features may be added, changed or withdrawn. Where a change materially reduces functionality, it is recorded in the notes published with that version.

## Accounts

An Account is created with an email address and carries the Licence, the status of Cloud, the AI connections and access keys authorised by you, and the report links you have shared.

You are responsible for maintaining access to the email address associated with the Account and for activity carried out under it.

An Account may be closed at any time from Account details in the Application, or by written request to [contact@longbook.app](mailto:contact@longbook.app). Closing the Account does not cancel Cloud: cancel it in the subscription settings of your Apple ID first, or it renews.

## Your data and the Hosted Services

The Memory File is stored on your device and in your own iCloud Drive. We have no access to it.

Two optional features place a copy of data on our servers, and each is enabled by you: (a) the hosted copy used by the longbook MCP server, so an authorised AI can read your records while you are away from your Mac and propose changes that your Application applies; and (b) shared reports, published behind a password longbook generates.

The Hosted Services require Cloud, as section 4 states, which a Licence includes for its first twelve months. A report shared with you can be viewed and commented on without it.

Disabling the MCP server, or revoking a shared report, deletes the corresponding copy at once; an expired shared report is deleted within a day. A hosted copy whose Account has been without Cloud for thirty (30) days is deleted, as clause 4.6 states.

Importing a statement sends that file through our server to a model provider named in the Privacy Policy for the time it takes to read it; nothing of it is retained by us.

You retain all rights in your data. You grant us only the limited rights necessary to store, transmit and display it for the features you have enabled.

The handling of personal data is described in the [Privacy Policy](https://longbook.app/privacy-policy).

## Acceptable use

You agree not to: (a) use the Service in breach of any law; (b) resell the Hosted Services or provide them to third parties; (c) exceed published rate limits or circumvent technical controls; (d) probe, scan, or interfere with the Service or its infrastructure; or (e) store content you have no right to store.

The Hosted Services are subject to fair-use rate limits.

Access may be suspended where suspension is necessary to protect the Service, its users, or to comply with law.

## Third-party services

The Service interoperates with products operated by others, including Apple iCloud and the AI assistants you choose to connect.

Those products are governed by their own terms. We are not responsible for their availability, their content, or changes made to them.

Product names and marks shown on the website identify those products. Their use implies no affiliation with, sponsorship by, or endorsement from their owners.

## Source code and open-source licences

The longbook source code is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 3 ("GPL-3.0"). In respect of that source code, the GPL-3.0 prevails over these Terms to the extent of any conflict.

The GPL-3.0 licence does not extend to the longbook name, the longbook logo, or the compiled binaries distributed by us.

The source code is published at [github.com/MXmaster2s/longbook-code](https://github.com/MXmaster2s/longbook-code); [longbook.app/source](https://longbook.app/source) describes how to contribute.

## Intellectual property

Except for your data and the source code covered by section 13, the Service and its contents are owned by us and protected by copyright and other laws.

"longbook" and the longbook logo are our trademarks. These Terms grant no right to use them.

Suggestions and feedback sent to us may be used without restriction and without obligation to you.

## No professional advice

longbook records financial commitments and produces reports from the records it is given.

The Service does not provide financial, investment, tax, accounting or legal advice. Decisions taken on the basis of information held in the Service are yours alone.

## Disclaimer of warranties

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that data will be preserved without loss. Maintaining your own backups remains your responsibility.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties. In those jurisdictions the exclusions in this section apply to the maximum extent permitted.

## Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or exemplary damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data or goodwill.

Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the amounts paid by you for the Licence and for Cloud in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

## Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless against claims, losses and reasonable costs arising from your breach of these Terms or your unlawful use of the Service.

## Term and termination

These Terms apply for as long as you use the Service.

The Licence, Cloud and the Account may be suspended or terminated for material breach of these Terms, with notice where practicable and an opportunity to remedy where the breach is capable of remedy.

On termination the Memory File remains yours, in your own storage. Hosted copies are deleted. Termination does not cancel Cloud with Apple: cancel it in the subscription settings of your Apple ID, or it renews.

Sections 13, 14, 16, 17, 18, 21 and 22 survive termination.

## Changes to these Terms

These Terms may be amended. The current version and its effective date are published on this page.

Material changes may be notified by email or in the Application.

Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the amended Terms.

## Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.

The competent courts in India have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising out of or in connection with these Terms, subject to clause 21.3.

A consumer resident in the European Union or the United Kingdom retains the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of their country of residence and may bring proceedings in the courts of that country.

Before commencing proceedings, please write to [contact@longbook.app](mailto:contact@longbook.app). Most matters are resolved that way.

## General

If a provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full effect.

A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.

You may not assign these Terms. We may assign them as part of a transfer of the business, on notice.

These Terms and the Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement between you and us in relation to the Service and supersede prior understandings.

Nothing in these Terms creates a partnership, agency or employment relationship.

## The operator, notices and contact

The Service is operated by **Rohit Kundliwal**, sole proprietor, established in India.

Notices under these Terms are sent to [contact@longbook.app](mailto:contact@longbook.app) and, to you, at the email address on your Account.

A postal address for the service of legal notices is provided on written request to that address.

These Terms take effect on 23 October 2026 and replace any earlier version. They differ from the version of 19 October 2026 in publishing the source code openly instead of granting repository access on request (section 13). The version of 19 October 2026 differed from the version of 13 October 2026 in requiring a Licence before use, with a refund window of seven days in place of a trial (section 5); in including twelve months of Cloud with a Licence, also for family members who receive it through Family Sharing; and in extending Cloud to Family Sharing (section 4). The version of 13 October 2026 differed from the version of 6 October 2026 in including a monthly share of statement reading with every Account, with a larger share under Cloud. The version of 6 October 2026 differed from the version of 23 September 2026 in adding section 4, the Cloud subscription, with consequential changes to sections 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 17 and 19 and to the cross-references.
